Fossil Artist: Paul Gordon Jamison
Clear Creek Quarry is the dream of Paul Gordon Jamison, brought to life only with the help of family and friends.
Jamison’s interest in fossils goes back to his early years at Utah State University, where he received an academic scholarship in Geology. Having earned his bachelor’s
degree there in 1981, he later completed a year of graduate work
in paleontology, funded in part by a teaching assistantship in
the Geology department at USU.
The discoverer of more than a dozen new fossil species, Jamison has donated and sold important specimens to museums and type collections around the world. His interest in paleontology runs the spectrum from Paleozoic marine invertebrates to these astonishing Eocene fish.
Having worked for two other well known commercial operators in Fossil Basin during the 80's, Jamison was frustrated by the mass-production aspect of the commercial fossil industry. In 1997, he decided to go out on his own. Now with his own quarry and studio, Jamison controls the process from beginning to end, from quarry to showroom. The result is a product that outshines the competition, both in specimen quality and artistic merit.
His primary goal as a fossil
artist is to highlight the unique qualities of each specimen, while
using the natural beauty of the stone to present the fossil. Jamison’s scientific background, skill in preparation, and creativity combine to "blur the line" between
fossil preparation and artistry. Whether tiles, tables, sculpture
or wall art, Clear Creek Quarry delivers the finest in fossil decor. |
